Commitment to Diversity and Equity
Although scientific endeavors strive to be objective, it is important to acknowledge these endeavors are the work of individuals whose unique perspective and experiences impact their work and interpretations. We acknowledge that institutionalized discrimination – based on race, gender, national origin, disability, and socioeconomic position, among others – persists in academic and scientific institutions. Further, such discrimination has created barriers for individuals from minoritized groups to participate in building and adding their perspectives to our science. Our lab is committed to breaking down these barriers by fostering an inclusive and safe learning environment, promoting collaborative work, and continuous commitment to anti-racism and anti-discrimination.
As our learning about this topic continues to evolve, so will this statement.
